According to George w. Ball, Jr., the owner of Burpee seed company, says that for every dollar spent on tomato seeds you will see $25 worth of product. In addition to tomatoes, other cash crops include: zucchini, loose-leaf lettuce, cucumbers, hot peppers and basil. Of those hot six cash crops we are growing 5. Do you garden? Good eye opener! I have tried gardening so many times, and so many methods. I don't know if I just have a black thumb or what, I have not even been able to grow the easiest things. *sigh*

Sadly, all of my money I spent on tomato seeds were wasted this year. I just can't get the knack of growing them in my climate (zone 9 subtropical)
I'm kind of over starting tomato from seed...they are NEVER big enough in time for me! Last year I grew cucumbers and had them coming out my ears! This year I have a basil blessing! I am growing herbs this year, and it's so nice to have fresh ingredients on hand. :)
I've always wanted to try growing lettuce, but does it take a lot of extra watering because of its high water content?

Why yes, we do grow a lot, and we probably do get the same return on the dollar. We've been gardening for about 10 years at our current home so the equipment is paid for. Every year, I have about 40 tomato plants, along with broccoli, peppers, beans, cucumbers, zucchini, potatoes, carrots, basil, parsley, perennial herbs, Concord grapes, peaches, apples, raspberries, blackberries. I always feel so blessed by our garden!
I grow all of those, though cucumbers struggle here. I also grow LOTS more in a .24 acre lot; I have 31 fruit trees!
