Weekly Shopping Trips 5/22-5/28----Ended the Month 83c Under Budget!

Well, I wasn't sure I could stay within my May 1-28 budget of $140 since I only had $17.01 left for this week, but I DID IT!!!!

May's Monthly Buget = $140
May's Actual Spending = $139.17
May's Total Savings = $862.38 for an average savings of 86%!

I wasn't up to a lot of running around so we ate up the produce we had, which means next week will REQUIRE some produce shopping for sure!  I did make a few trips to get in on some great freebies/super cheap items and a mini stock up at the Bread Outlet and spent $16.18 this week.  I was very excited to find the NO HFCS bread on the discount table (that means each loaf was 90c!) and picked up 4 loaves.  I also got 8 packages of Turkey Hot Dogs for 38c/package, 3 Angus Hot Dogs for 19c/package and 9 Al Fresco Chicken Sausages for 49c/package!  I'm excited to have something in my freezer besides cheese and ground turkey!

Aldi: $1.61
Friehoffers: $1.34

Walgreens: $1.53
I didn't feel like doing any "deals" and had RRs that were expiring, so I had fun!

CVS: $0.64
Stop & Shop: $0.60

Shoprite: $3.06

Friehoffers: $5.40
Shoprite: $0.41

The only thing missing is the Organic Sugar I had my husband pick up for $1.54 at Walmart.

Total Spent = $16.18
Total Saved = $197.94 for a savings of 92%!!!

Were you able to stay in budget this month?
What great deals did you find this week?

Wednesday Tip Day----Getting Creative with your Cereal!

THREE NEW IDEAS for CEREAL

June's issue of "Family Circle" had a great little snippit with ideas for cereal.
I thought this would make a great tip post since we are always finding great cereal deals!

1.  Stir 1 cup bran flakes, 1/4 cup chopped walnuts, 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup softened butter until crumbly.  Sprinkle over top of muffin batter before baking.

2.  Combine 2 cups Cinnamon Toast Crunch, 1/2 cup sliced toasted almonds and 1/4 cup granulated sugar.  Coarsely crush. Roll 1 pint of ice cream in mixture and refreeze before serving.

3.  Mix 2 cups Rice Krispies with 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning.  Dip, one by one, 4 thinly sliced boneless, skinless chicken breasts in beaten egg; dredge in cereal to coat.  Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes.

What are your favorite ways to use cereal in your recipes?

Wednesday Tip Day---Defrosting Your Freezer....speed it up!

I recently defrosted my upright freezer and did a quick search on the internet for tips.

Would you beleive this is the first time I've done this!?!

One thing I kept coming across was the following suggestion:

Put a pot of boiling water in the freezer and close the door.

Steam is hot and will melt the ice faster than just room temperature. The more boiling water, the faster the ice will melt.
It was recommended that I replace the pot of water every 15-20 minutes.  I followed this recommendation and was disappointed at first.  However, after about 3 pots of boiling water, I began to really see the "work" that was being done!
***Use caution that you do not melt any plastic in the freezer if the pot is too hot.

After about 4 hours, I was ready to restock!

It's pretty amazing how much more room there is without all the ice build-up!

Shopping week of 5/8-5/14-----Lots of fresh foods and staples!

My monthly budget of $140 thru May 28th is quickly dwindling down.  We bought a lot of fresh veggies this week and some other staples (salt and black beans), so that has made our spending a little on the higher side.  I'm resolved that it's ok if we end up going over budget by a little this month, as long as we've gone over for buying fresh, healthy food!

May's Budget: $140-$40.38(week 1)
$99.62 of budget remaining at start of week 2

Aldi: $3.13
Shoprite: $4.18
Walgreens: $0.00

CVS: $0.76
Shoprite: $4.60

Aldi: $8.30

Sorry this picture is sooooo DARK. You can't even see the black beans :(
Mother Earth's: $7.60
Walgreens: $1.00

Adams: $4.25
CVS: $0.63
Walgreens: $2.12

Aldi: $3.10
Shoprite: $3.93
(will submit for $5 Sorrento rebate, but you know the drill....I don't count it until I get it!)

Total Spent = $42.30
Total Saved = $171.81 for a savings of  80%

$57.32 Remaining in May's budget!!!
It's going to be tight!

How did you do this week???
